Abstract

This work presents the design and implementation of a vertical axis wind turbine as a sustainable energy alternative for urban areas that experience frequent electricity outages. The project was carried out at the San Valentín Market, located in San Martín de Porres, Lima, where instability in electrical supply affects commercial development. An integrated methodology was employed, using both qualitative and quantitative tools, such as surveys, interviews, experimental testing of the prototype, and social validation. The results revealed that 70% of the merchants expressed interest in implementing this system, highlighting its efficiency, low maintenance, quiet operation, and minimal environmental impact. It is concluded that the adoption of vertical axis wind turbines in urban environments represents a technically viable and socially accepted solution, with potential for replication in other similar contexts.
